Augmentation at ITM University Gwalior: Elevating Learning with Audit Credits

Introduction: The academic journey at ITM University Gwalior is not solely about acquiring professional expertise; it also involves nurturing well-rounded individuals who are culturally aware and socially responsible. In alignment with this vision, ITM University has embarked on an innovative initiative to incorporate an "Audit Credit" system. This system is designed to recognize and reward student participation in a diverse array of extra-curricular activities, including Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) events, workshops on cutting-edge technologies, AI orientations, hackathons, sports, cultural events, tech fests, and value-added courses.

The Rationale for Audit Credits: Audit Credits are proposed as a means to promote holistic development among students. By participating in these activities, students gain exposure beyond traditional academic boundaries, enriching their educational experience. The Audit Credit system allows students to engage in experiential learning, encouraging them to explore new domains, hone their skills, and deepen their understanding of both cultural heritage and modern technological advancements. This initiative aligns with ITM’s commitment to producing graduates who are not only technically proficient but also culturally grounded and globally competitive.

Proposed Audit Credit System:

  • Credit Allocation: Audit Credits will be awarded in a fractional system. For example, 0.25 credits may be earned per event, depending on the activity’s duration and complexity.
  • Requirement for Progression: To ensure continuous engagement, students must accumulate a minimum of 2 Audit Credits each academic year. This may involve attending various events, workshops, or courses. While these credits do not impact the SGPA or CGPA, they are essential for academic progression.
  • Flexibility: Students have the autonomy to select activities that resonate with their interests, allowing them to tailor their learning experiences. This flexibility ensures that students can delve deeper into specific areas, whether it be traditional knowledge systems or emerging technologies.

Examples of Activities and Potential Credits:

  • IKS Events: Activities such as classical music concerts, theatre festivals, and dialogues on Indian philosophy may yield 0.25 to 0.5 credits based on their scale and engagement level.
  • Workshops on Cutting-Edge Technology: Participation in workshops or orientations on AI, blockchain, or other advanced technologies could earn students 0.25 to 0.5 credits.
  • Hackathons and Tech Fests: Engaging in hackathons or tech fests that challenge students to innovate and apply their skills may offer 0.5 credits.
  • Sports and Cultural Events: Involvement in sports tournaments or cultural festivals can contribute 0.25 to 0.5 credits, depending on the level of participation and achievement.
  • Value-Added Courses: Completion of short courses that enhance technical or soft skills could also contribute towards the accumulation of Audit Credits.

Benefits: The introduction of Audit Credits at ITM University Gwalior is anticipated to bring about several benefits:

  • Enhanced Student Engagement: By linking extra-curricular participation with audit credits, students are more likely to engage actively in campus events, fostering a vibrant university culture.
  • Skill Development: The variety of activities ensures that students are exposed to different skill sets, aiding in their overall development and employability.
  • Cultural and Technological Awareness: Regular participation in IKS events and technology workshops enhances students' appreciation for their cultural roots while keeping them abreast of modern advancements.
  • Balanced Growth: The credit system encourages students to balance academic rigor with personal interests, resulting in a more fulfilling university experience.
