National Cadet Corps (NCC)

The National Cadet Corps came into existence on 16 July 1948, under the 31st NCC Act of 1948, based on the recommendation of Pundit H Kunzru Committee. NCC was started with strength of 38,500 Boys Cadets. Girls Cadets were added in the Army Wing in 1949, Air Wing in 1950 and Naval Wing in 1952. In the initial stages, NCC was confined mainly to the urban areas. Today NCC has spread to every corner of the country, having more than 13 lakhs Cadets. The National Cadet Corps, which has both Boys and Girls as cadets, has the basic aim of developing the character qualities in the youth to make them good citizens of the society and worthy leaders of the future in every walk of life.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Units at ITM University Gwalior

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Units at ITM University Gwalior is a full-fledged community of motivated and trained youth that exhibits leadership qualities in the activities they had undertaken in the past.

The ITM University Gwalior has 03 established active NCC Units comes under 8 MP Artillery Battalion Gwalior (106 Seats for Girls & Boys), 3MP Artillery Girls Battalion Gwalior (53 Seats for Girls Only) and 3MP Naval Unit Gwalior (80 Seats for Girls & Boys). ITM University Gwalior offered NCC as general generic elective subject at UG level. The cadets are offered a variety of courses including those for Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Basic Mountaineering course, Para Sailing and Para slithering etc.

Objectives:

The NCC aims at developing character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens. Further, it aims at creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the Nation regardless of which career they choose. Needless to say, the NCC also provides an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to join the armed forces.

Enrolment Procedure
Eligibility Conditions
  • Citizen of India or a subject of Nepal.
  • Bearing good moral character.
  • Enrolled in an educational institution.
  • Meets the prescribed medical standards.
  • Age
    • Senior Division/Wing (Boys/Girls) - Upto 26 years
  • Enrolment Period
    • Senior Division/Wing (Boys/Girls) - 3 years

Students of graduation are enrolled for the period of maximum three years on the basis of selection procedure based on physical fitness, medical test and personal interview and is carried out in the month of July- August every year at ITM University, Gwalior by the selection committee includes: senior army officers and ANOs.

Institutional Training:
Regular Parade on every Saturday 1300 to 1700 hrs.
  • Institutional training conducted at ITM University is the mainstay of NCC training and is conducted by Associate NCC Officers and Armed Forces personnel. The syllabus comprises Common Subjects and Service Subjects in the ratio 70:30. While the Senior Wing/Division training is for three years and has 300 hrs. Training schedules planned for cadets ensure that the optimum benefits of the organisation reach maximum number of cadets. Emphasis is on practical training. Case study method of instruction, wherever possible, is made to facilitate active participation and better assimilation.
  • Institutional training includes basic military training to the cadets as part of the curriculum and prepares them to join the Armed Forces.
Eligibility: Certificate Exams:
Certificate B.
  • The cadet must have attended a minimum of 75% of total training periods laid down in the syllabus for the first and second years for Senior Division Wing NCC.
  • Break in the NCC Training Tenure of the cadet SD/ SW prior to appearing in the exam should not exceed more than 18 months at one time after his discharge to count his tenure for Certificate B Examination.
  • In case the break exceeds 18 months the following procedure will be adopted:-
    • If he had been on the unit rolls for a minimum of two years before his discharge and had attended 75% of the total periods during his NCC tenure he will need another 36 periods of training to become eligible to appear for Certificate B Examination.
    • In all other cases where above conditions are not fulfilled the cadet must attend a minimum of 75% periods of the first & second years of training.
  • Must have attended one Annual Training Camp /NIC /COC / RDC / Attachment with Regular Army.

Certificate C.
  • The cadet must be in possession of Certificate B.
  • The cadet must be in third year of Senior Division/Senior Wing NCC Training.
  • The cadet must have attended a minimum of 75% of the periods of 3rdyear syllabus during the academic session.
  • Break in the NCC Training Tenure of the cadet SD/SW prior to appearing in the Exam should not exceed more than 18 months at one time after his discharge to count his previous tenure for Certificate C examination.
  • In case the break exceeds 18 months the following procedure will be adopted:-
    • If he had been on the unit rolls for a minimum of two years before his discharge and attended 75% of the total period during his NCC Tenure he will need another 30 periods of training to become eligible for Certificate C examination.
    • In other cases where above conditions are not fulfilled, the cadet must attend a minimum of 75% periods of the third year of training.
  • Must have attended one ATC and in addition one of the following in three year tenure:-
    • Annual Training Camp (This is in addition to one mentioned above).
    • Republic Day Camp at Delhi (RDC).
    • Centrally Organized Camp (COC). Ordered by HQ DGNCC
    • Para Training Camp (PTC).
    • National Integration Camp (NIC) (When applicable for SD/ SW Cadets).
    • All India Trekking Expedition (HQ DGNCC Organized).
    • All India Mountaineering Expedition (HQ DGNCC Organized).
    • Attachment Training with any one of the following:-
      • Army Unit.
      • Air Force Station.
      • Naval Base/ Establishment/ Ship/ Sea Training.
      • Service Hospital.
    • Any one of the following Adventure Courses:-
      • Mountaineering Basic Course.
      • Mountaineering Advance Course.
      • Water Skiing/Snow Skiing Courses.
      • Snow & Ice (Condensed) Course.
    • Sailing expedition with actual sailing exceeding 10 days, duly approved by HQ DGNCC.
    • Participated in NRAI matches as part of HQ DGNCC/Directorate team.
    • Scuba Diving Course.
    • Youth Exchange Programme.
  • Cadets will be allowed to appear for Certificate C examination only after one year of passing Certificate B examination.
Awards by ITM University Gwalior:
  • Cash prize is given to cadets representing University at national and international level.
  • Motivational Awards in the form of Medals/Trophies/Certificates are also given to cadets for achievements in different fields.

Also provide Entry Level Scholarship at the time of Admission in first year tuition fee as per the performance of aspirant at State/National/International level as NCC cadet in his/her previous institute/School.
